A Written Discussion of the U.S. motive for
threatening Korea and China and securing Taiwan.
To the American imperialists, Taiwan is a vital
link in the chain of bases from the Aleutians
to the Mariannas, thrown aggressively across the
5,000 miles of the Pacific from the U.S. mainland,
against the foreshores of Asia. America's "strategic
frontier has shifted to embrace the entire Pacific
Ocean", says MacArthur. The American proconsul
in Japan had also the effrontery to say that Taiwan
is necessary to the U.S. strategic plan to "dominate
by air power every Asiatic port from Vladivostok
to Singapore" from this island chain, that
is to menace the People's Republic of China, the
USSR, and the national liberation movements in
Asia.
Knowing
that their puppet Chiang will fall at the first
well prepared blow of the PLA, who will be aided
by the heroic islanders, the American imperialists
have decided that they must drop the mask and
resort to a naked act of aggression in order to
retain control of Taiwan. This was the immediate
reason for Truman's decision to send the U.S.
7th Fleet in an attempt to prevent the liberation
of the island, with the further despatch of air
and ground units, military missions and advisers.
In taking this step, the U.S. President did not
hesitate to swallow his own words of January 5th
that "the United States has no predatory
designs on Formosa or any other Chinese territory".
He brushed aside solemn international agreements
that the USA had freely entered into, namely,
the Cairo and Potsdam Declarations of 1943 and
1945 respectively, by which the United States,
in conjunction with the United Kingdom, the Soviet
Union and China herself, guarantees the restoration
of Taiwan to the Chinese people.
In
an attempt to further cloud the issue, the U.S.
imperialists are trying to instigate a few local
quislings, such as the Liao brothers, to demand
"independence" for Taiwan under the
U.S. or U.N. trusteeship. But no amount of quibbling
can change the fact that fact that Taiwan is Chinese
territory.
The
Chinese people have made it clear that no aggressive
act of the USA can prevent the re-unification
of Taiwan with the mainland. Premier Chou En-lai
has stated: "The Chinese people who defeated
Japanese imperialism and Chiang Kai-shek, the
hireling of American imperialism, will surely
be victorious in driving out the American aggressors
and in recovering Taiwan and all other territories
belonging to China".
Time
and again, the Taiwan people have declared in
unequivocal terms demand to be free and their
determination to return to the fold of the mother
country. Their whole history has shown that
when the hour for the final liberation of Taiwan
comes they will be true to their patriotic traditions
and rise to throw the American imperialists and
their lackeys into the pacific.
