Introduction
For three
years the Northern and Southern Korean military, supported
by their allies, battled in a devastating civil war.
The conflict was more than just a national disaster.
It was a battle between communism and capitalism, a
battle between ideologies, and a battle using the full
range of military technology available to the two sides.
It was also a war, which nearly resulted in the use
of nuclear weapons, and yet it is now sometimes described
as 'The Forgotten War'.
This section
looks at images and accounts from war rather than giving
a detailed military account of events. It examines how
these sources can be used by historians.
