Activity questions

Activity 1: Investigation

The sources in this section provides a brief impression of several aspects of the war in Korea. When we assess the impact of a war we can do this in a number of ways:

By key events

By numbers killed; injured and missing
By the nature of weapons used
By disruption to the economy
By number of refugees
By turning points
By global impact
By length of conflict
By the impact on neighbouring states

Historians might also be interested in looking at how past events have been interpreted and reinterpreted. We call major questioning of the accepted view of history 'revisionism'. Revisionist historians might overturn a long established interpretation of the past by establishing theories which have a new emphasis. These theories might be based on newly uncovered evidence or they might be radical re-evaluations of what is known about the past and the way it has been recorded.
