Introduction

During the Korean War the North lost approximately 600,000 men and suffered nearly two million casualties. The Chinese lost one million. The South lost 70,000; had 150,000 wounded and 80,000 were captured from the military (most of whom died). There were also a million casualties from the civilian population.

33,600 Americans were killed and 103,200 were wounded. Thousands more were held prisoner by the communist military. This section examines conflicting accounts and versions of the POW's experience.
