Matthew Paris, 'Historia Anglorum' (History of the English). Matthew Paris was a Benedictine monk who entered the monastery of St Albans around 1217. The monastery had a large scriptorium and Matthew Paris helped the abbey's first great chronicler, Roger of Wendover, with his work. He took over as chronicler around 1236.
