Scene in a tea warehouse at the Canton factories, by a Chinese artist, c.1800. The Chinese workers are bringing in the straw containers filled with tea, and emptying them on to a large pile for checking. They are watched over by three Europeans, who are wearing white kerchiefs to protect their hair from the dust. A fourth European is in conversation with a Chinese official. The tea chests, numbered in Western and Chinese scripts, are lined up ready to be filled.
