Trading Places: The East India Company and Asia

Introduction

The East India Company's world in the 1600s was a very complicated one, ruled by many different people. It took a very long time for letters to travel the great distances between them, but it was still possible for the rulers of nations to communicate with each other. They could make friends or declare war, send ambassadors, begin trade or turn a blind eye to piracy.

All of these communications made a giant, complex network, centuries before the internet.
