The most
prestigious event in the darts calendar took place once again
in the wildest venue in modern darts, the Circus Tavern in
Purfleet , Essex from 29 December 2000 - 6th January 2001.
This
event featured the top 32 PDC ranked players battling it out
for a prize-fund of over £200,000. Although the event saw
some close-run matches, notably Canadian John Part's narrow
semi-final win 6 - 5 over Rod Harrington from Essex, the final
turned out to be a one sided affair. Phil Taylor won his ninth
World Championship and his seventh in succession when he whitewashed
John Part 7 - 0.
